Waipio Valley - Hawaii

At the edge,

at the edge of Honoka'a--
Hamakua
east side--
Big Island
puka split--
open green lips
old wound ash
black black sand

800 feet--
Eight Hundred Down
Two thousand and two
switchbacks up to the Valley
summit

800 steep
nioi nioi nioi
creaking knees
Nioi wela o Paʻakalana
black black cliff

Hiss and tumble
the liquid train comes in
Steam of salt
cool on pink cheek

Blue, blue water

It is.
It is.
